Re-arranged the office (coughbedroomcough) the other night and found that this one wall really needed something. People are always passing through and writing me notes on anything they can find (including things that don't actually belong to me.)
SO WHAT BETTER ITEM TO GET THAN A GIANT CHALKBOARD! Big up to Christina Ass for the ride to the sto'. This thing should be fun.

THE TASTY LECTURE...

Great night....
The man behind Johnny Cupcakes, John Earle, came to speak at Cuse. He went from telling stories about how while working at a Boston comic store he would sell shirts out of his beat up 89' Toyota Camry, to just droppin general knowledge on how to go about creating a successful brand. He is truly a master of his work. After the lecture we had a chance to share contact information and he even got a hold of some Wisdom threads. Who know's... maybe a collab in the near future. Guess you will just have to stay tuned.

Get Out Our Dreams

Kanye West has been on the cover of almost every music/style magazine in the past few months. This post isnt about to beat you over the head with the same old bullshit story about how Kanye is the voice of our generation. Instead, I will be commenting and reflecting on Kanye's contributions to our generation as an entrepreneur, specificly through the creation of his label G.O.O.D. Music.

Kanye might be an emcee, rapper, producer, but he started as a songwriter. He made his name by producing Jay's immortal Blueprint, as well as collaborations with Talib Kweli, Alicia Keys and Luda. Yeeze is goin back to his roots in the booth. GOOD Music is a label with a selective roster, featuring mainly conscious rappers who flirt with the mainstream. John Legend and Common are two of the bigger names on the label, each gained much fame and success from letting Kanye work his magic in the booth.

With Kanye as the active executive of GOOD Music, a subsidiary of Sony Music, he is making moves towards the future. Look out for G.O.O.D.'s newest signings, because with a little help from the Dropout Professor, they will be the next Common or John Legend. Keep up to date with Kanye's apprentices via the GOOD Music Website or Wisdomclothes.com (yea we got a domain bc we big peoples now). Specifically keep an eye ball out for KiD CuDi, Consequence and Sa-Ra.

Back into the flow of things

This weekend went by entirely too fast. Seemed like I barely had enough time to breath. On Saturday I went to an 11 hour Advertising workshop. While it was an awesome experience, I cant say I loved being stuck in class on a Saturday, especially with the great weather. We broke up into groups and came up with Ad campaigns for the Chevy Volt. The car isn't supposed to come out till 2012 but its pretty sick. The Volt. It goes up to 40 miles without even touchin any fuel. But you gotta drop 45 grand to get it, so start saving.

Anyways, now that it's all done its time to sit back and get into the flow of things...like this guy.

Cultural Findings: Jamaica

Spring Break was an opportunity for me to fulfill the fantasy of every Jewish boy, I visited Jamaica. My pilgrimage to Jamaica was very different than I expected. Although I only visited Negril, it seems like the Island of Jamaica is quite similar to Jamaica Queens, save for the irie weather and guava fruits.

Jamaica is hood, no doubt. If you choose to stay on the resort, and look at white girl eye candy, power to you. But my curiosity brought me to downtown Negril, the Cliffs, Errol's I-tal shop and a dance hall concert/rude boy gathering. The concert/rude boy gathering (rude boy is patua for gangsta) consisted of motorcycle gangs riding through the audience to mark their spot, fluffy Jamaican girls and a general intolerance for batty boys. Honestly, I expected some violence in Jamaica, as it is a developing third world country with infamous crime issues. But the rude boy gathering far surpassed what I expected. I expected a concert, especially reggae, to act as a peaceful gathering where Jamaicans and tourists can vibe peacefully. I was wrong. I saw more guns at this concert than in Terminator III. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the music, food, weather and the old Jamaican women that will haggle and hustle you. After the concert, which proved to be a very educational experience, I came to the following conclusion:
Jamaica misses Bob Marley. I look forward to the day when Jamaican music and culture will be dedicated to peace, equality and tolerance.

Anyways, here is some patua you should be familiar with before traveling to Jamrock:

Irie: a positive response to nearly everything. Hows the weather? Irie. Hows the jerk chicken? Irie
Batty Boy: Homosexual, definitly the most offensive epithet for a Jamaican man.
Wagwan: Whats going on?
Raggamuffin: ghetto dweller
bumbaclot: explitive, noun or adjective
fluffy girl: a favorably looking jamaican woman
slaaba slaaba: fat man
Bad Man Zekes: extortionist, notable Jamaican gang leader

BIT DIFFERENT THAN BONNAROO

Last Wednesday (March 11th), Holi, or the Festival of colors was celebrated in India. Holi is celebrated as a welcoming of Spring, and a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. People chase each other and splash colorful paint, powder and water on each other. Here are some photos from this year's Festival...

FOR THE MAP LOVER'S OUT THERE

These guys are pretty cool. The Chicagoans came up with this creative Map-making idea called Ork Poster's about a year ago and continue to make maps for populated US cities. They seem to rep the far west and far east. There are plenty of New York maps for our Syracuse, New Yorkers to choose from: Manhattan, Brooklyn, NYC. For all the map lovers, it's a GREAT thing to hang up in college rooms ...

He's the type of guy that can do a great amount with very few materials. Leavitt has a show entitled “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” in New York at the Fuse Gallery on March 21st. These cardboard shoes will be part of the gallery. The Jordan IV's are dope. See more at Arrested Motion.

Then went back to midtown and had some BBQ at Bluesmoke. Check that place out, it rocks.....or jazzes(Its half jazz club).

Theeeen, best of all, went to UCB Theater for some Upright Citizens Brigade improv comedy. It's always different, it's always good. Everytime I've gone there have been writers/performers from SNL and Colbert. Sunday night is the best. $10 tix/ $2 PBRs. Delicious.

BEST BURGER OF MY LIFE!

What up. I'm back home in DC for spring break and I easily had the best hamburger in my life tonight. I checked out a new place called The Burger Joint located right in Bethesda. Honestly, biting through this fat piece of meat was better than first time I realized water beds existed...life changing. Their menu is overloaded with all kinds of burgers. Definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling in the DMV anytime soon...
