Music Monday

The Cool Kids:

Antoine “Mikey Rocks” Reed + Evan “Chuck Inglish” Ingersoll = The Cool Kids.

The Cool Kids met in 2005, when Mikey Rocks wanted to buy a Chuck Inglish beat streamed on myspace. A few moths later, the two met in order to finalize this business transaction. This business meeting evolved into an extended studio session, which began “The Cool Kids.”

The two emcees share a common appreciation for Eric B. and Rakim, two iconic emcees of the golden age of hip hop. The combination of conscious hip hop influence and electronic music results in The Cool Kids sound. Diplo and A-Trak both offered the newly founded duo opportunities on their respective labels, but they decided to stay indie. The development of their label (C.A.K.E.) and tour collaborations with MIA and Rock the Bells, allowed The Cool Kids to release two mixtapes on their own, low budget label: The Bake Sale (2008) & Gone Fishing (2009).

The Bake Sale dropped last year, and received significant critical acclaim. Gone Fishing was released as a free download on their website. This mixtape is a testament of the osmosis of hip hop and dance music, and the value of FREE MUSIC.

Music Monday: Welcoming in the Summer

(introducing the new music monday, double the pleasure, format)
De La Soul x Nike....again
This past march marks the 20th Anniversary of De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising. In order to bring in the festivities, De La Soul and Nike collaborate, once again, to release their newest tracks since 2004!
This soon to be released track is a 45 min cut arranged specifically for "runners", but will be appreciate by all hip hop junkies. The recording is composed of about 8 or 9 tracks, mixed together by Flosstradamus. Although I'm questioning De La's choice in producers, I'm psyched for the mix to drop tomorrow! SO..look out for the link manana, cus its a funky way to start the summer....

Masta Ace: A Long Hot Summer
There is something about summer in Brooklyn that brings about the creative juices, i.e. Do the Right Thing a Spike Lee joint, or the classic A Long Hot Summer by the masta, Masta Ace himself.
Ace put out this concept album in 2001. The narrative takes you on a tour through the summer in BK with Ace and Fats Belvedere. Go buy, pirate or share this album with a few friends, because it will transport your mind from finals to home sweet home.

Words of Wisdom #2

A hero and an icon while living, Bob Marley continues to influence people 25 years after his passing. His music worked as the rhetoric of the Rastafarian movement against oppression and racism in Jamaica. Using metaphors to describe the hardships of the political fights of Jamaicans and Africans, Marley established himself as the spokesman of a race and culture. While the man himself may be gone, his words of Wisdom will always live on.

Marley left us with a never-ending library of inspirational music including one of my favorites, "Wisdom."

Americas Pastime

We're still working on final designs for the Spring line. In the meantime here are some photos I took today while at a local baseball field. Gotta love how baseball is back on the television.
